Other destinations within easy driving distance include Marbella, San Pedro, Ronda, Puerto de la Duquesa, Casares, Gibraltar and Benahavís — and the Andalusian white villages of the interior are well worth a half-day trip.

Estepona Marina

The marina is a natural starting point for any visit to Estepona. Lined with fishing boats and sailing yachts, it has a relaxed, authentic atmosphere that sets it apart from the more glamorous ports further along the coast. Waterfront restaurants serve fresh seafood, and the sunsets over the water are genuinely worth stopping for.

Markets & Local Life

Estepona has two weekly street markets that give a real sense of local life. The Wednesday market on Avenida Puerta del Mar and Parque de las Mesas offers fresh produce, plants and everyday goods. The Sunday market at the Marina is larger and more varied, with crafts, clothing and souvenirs. Both are colourful, unhurried and well worth a visit.

The Old Town

Estepona's old town is one of the most attractive on the Costa del Sol — and one of the least crowded. Narrow whitewashed streets, flower-filled balconies and carefully tended window boxes give it a charm that feels genuinely lived-in rather than dressed up for tourists. Allow yourself time to wander without a plan — the best discoveries tend to be the unplanned ones: a quiet square, a local tapas bar, a beautifully tiled doorway.
