Seeking inner serenity? Then, take the path to the iconic white villages of Andalusia, discover delicious traditional cuisine, stroll through streets with Arabic influences, and immerse yourself in total communion with nature.
From our beachfront apartments on the Costa del Sol, we recommend heading to Estepona and then following Avenida de Andalucia towards Jubrique for this unique experience.
Jubrique, a Gem in the Serranía de Ronda
From the harmonious union of four small Moorish villages emerged Jubrique, a municipality in the heart of the Serranía de Ronda, renowned for its rich tradition in wine and spirits production.
Its charming whitewashed houses and narrow streets blend perfectly with the surrounding landscape.
Once in Jubrique, don't miss the fountain of the Lavar River, once a public washhouse and the town's only water source. Jubrique's churches, steeped in history and art, also deserve your attention.
Start with the picturesque Church of Saint Francis of Assisi, where the sacristy houses images of the 18th-century Virgin of Candelaria and a Nazarene Jesus with natural hair. Built in the 16th century on an old mosque, this church exudes a special atmosphere.
Continue your visit to the hermitage of Santa Cruz de Choricillo, traditionally housing an altar dedicated to Nuestra Señora de los Dolores. After this enriching exploration, head back towards Ronda, and consider having lunch at Venta del Rio, a renowned typical restaurant known for its succulent flavors. If the weather allows, you can even cool off in the river under the bridge.
Algatocin, Winding Streets, and Preserved Nature
After enjoying the experience at Venta del Rio in Jubrique, take the road towards Algatocin, a small Andalusian village with white houses. Algatocin's unique Moorish-origin urban structure harmoniously adapts to the terrain with its narrow winding streets.
Surrounded by chestnut, holm oak, and cork oak forests, Algatocin offers an idyllic setting for hiking. It's a perfect place for nature lovers and local gastronomy enthusiasts.
Don't miss the Mirador del General, located one kilometer from the center of Algatocin, offering a panoramic view of the river valley and the white villages of the Serrania de Ronda, such as Alpandeire, Faraján, Jubrique, and Genalguacil.
Also, explore the Church of Nuestra Señora Del Rosario, Algatocin's most important construction dating back to the 16th century, although it has undergone various modifications over time.
Resume your journey towards Gaucin, continue your trip, and conclude your adventure in Casares.
Casares, an Exceptional Andalusian Village
To say that Casares is a gem is an understatement. While most white villages are beautiful, there's a particular atmosphere in this one that encourages the visitor to park their car and explore its picturesque streets.
Begin your exploration by parking at the bottom of the village and head towards Plaza de España. From there, wander through the winding streets, climbing up to the fortress to enjoy an extraordinary view of the coast once at the top.
Then descend towards the Mediterranean on a 14-kilometer road, turn left towards Estepona, and finish your adventure by returning to your beachfront apartment in Estepona.
